      The article discusses the story of Maggie Worthen, who survived from a stroke a deep comat after she suffered a massive stroke in 2006. Worthern was labeled vegetative, a diagnosis that disqualified her from insurance coverage for future rehabilitation. She was enrolled in a clinical trial at New York City's Cornell Medical College which aims to understand how the severely injured brain recovers. Also discussed is the use of neuroimaging technologies to facilitate recovery.
