    • Abstract:
This article focuses on the politics and educational issues in the United States. View taken by either of the two great parties, Republican Party and Democratic Party, touching the powers of the general government depends very much on whether the party itself is in office or opposition. When the Democrats were last in power, they asserted as strongly the power of the federal government as the Republicans now do. They tried to make the local state institution of slavery national in every sense of the term. Education intends to fit young people to be fit for a life of self-dependence, and for the expression at the polls of a safe or even harmless opinion on public affairs.
