      The article focuses on various developments around the world during 1872. First article focuses on the report of late Edmund Ruffin, agricultural surveyor of the U.S. state. The rich deposits of marls and marl-stones formed a portion of the geological structure of U.S. had been surmised. The investigations of Ruffin were chiefly directed towards the discovery and location of deposits of marl. Another article focuses on the writings of François Marie Arouet de Voltaire. The collection of Voltaire works is not one which can ever be read from beginning to end, but nothing is more delightful and more absorbing than to go through it, taking sometimes one volume and sometimes another.
