- Abstract: The present work aimed to realize an epistemological reflection on the most relevant articles in Financial Literacy. After a thorough analysis of the studies with more than 100 citations on the topic, it was possible to classify them according to the epistemological paradigms proposed by Burrel and Morgan (1979). Results indicated that more than 90% of the studies adopted the functionalist approach, focusing on quantitative methods and seeking to generalize the findings. This concentration reveals the existence of a mainstream approach in financial literacy research. The absence of a methodological pluralism can limit the understanding of the phenomenon and, consequently, the development of the modern Finance Theory. A practical effect of this limited understanding of Financial Literacy may be the design of financial education policies that are inefficient or have unsatisfactory results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract: O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma reflexão epistemológica nos artigos mais relevantes em Alfabetização Financeira. Após uma análise profunda dos estudos com mais de 100 citações sobre o tema, foi possível classificá-los de acordo com os paradigmas epistemológicos propostos por Burrel e Morgan (1979). Constatou-se que mais de 90% dos trabalhos adotaram a abordagem funcionalista, com foco em métodos quantitativos e buscando a generalização dos resultados. Essa concentração revela a existência de um mainstream approach nas pesquisas em Alfabetização Financeira. A ausência de um pluralismo metodológico pode limitar a compreensão sobre o fenômeno e, consequentemente, o desenvolvimento da moderna Teoria das Finanças. Um efeito prático dessa compreensão limitada sobre a Alfabetização Financeira pode ser o desenho de políticas de educação financeira ineficientes ou com resultados insatisfatórios.
