      The author discusses the physiology of the magic trick known as sword swallowing. Executive Director of Sword Swallowers' Association International Dan Meyer and radiologist Brian Whitcombe performed a survey among sword swallowers that was published in the December 23, 2006 issue of "BMJ." Some of the statistics from the survey are included in the article, with particular focus given to sword swallowing injuries.
