      This is the theme of the Grand Lodge of California in its recognition of Public Schools Month in April, 1989. It has been said that education is the key to a living democracy. An enlightened citizenry has knowledge and the reasoning power to challenge and forces of tyranny and preserve the dignity of the individual and the society in which he or she lives.
