- Abstract: The author discusses the history of dystopian science fiction for young adults. He notes that such themes originated in adult science fiction, such as "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells and "1984" by George Orwell, long before they became popular in stories for young people. The increasing popularity of post-apocalyptic youth fiction in the 21st century is analyzed.
