    • Abstract:
The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Program (CLASS), a section of the recently enacted federal health reform legislation, establishes a longterm care insurance program funded by voluntary participant premiums, which can be deducted from a worker's paycheck. CLASS brings up the daunting complexities of making quality long-term care affordable to middle-income families and retirees. To understand why, the column first describes briefly those complexities and then what CLASS will and will not do. The column concludes with some modest suggestions for how to address the challenge of providing affordable, quality long-term care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
