      The article discusses a variety of health issues impacting firefighters and emergency medical service personnel in the U.S.. It identifies the coronary heart disease as the number one killer of firefighters in the nation due to unhealthy eating and fitness habits, fire duties and stress. Also discussed is the Heart-Health Firefighter Program created by the National Volunteer Fire Council to prevent the risk of heart disease in firefighters and improve the health of emergency personnel.
