    • Abstract:
In this article the author discusses the lack of general knowledge that exists in the United States. He notes that voters are incapable of making informed choices in U.S. elections. The author contrasts truth, objectivity, science and fact with opinion, prejudice and irrationality, claiming that to a significant degree Americans have substituted opinion for reason. A number of issues are addressed including the opinion on creationism held by former U.S. President George W. Bush, the conflation of knowledge with elitism, and the 2010 midterm elections.
