      The article examines research by Lee Grenfell of the German Aerospace Center's Institute of Planetary Research which suggests that a planet's atmosphere, not just its surface, can contain signs of life. According to Grenfell's research, the ability to identify atmospheric biomarkers would assist in the ability to determine a planet's ability to support life.
