      This article focuses on sexual abuse. Sexual abuse has complex roots: in the need of adults for ratification of their power; in the institutional structure of schools and churches, which tend to protect their staff; in sexual repression. It is unquestionably helped along by opposition to sex education by religious institutions and conservative politicians. Sexual abuse was for too long cloaked in silence. Now because of hysterical publicity the pendulum has swung the other way, toward persecuting daycare workers, blacklisting teachers accused of speech rather than actual abuse and campaigning to admit unprovable memories as evidence.
