    • Abstract:
The article emphasizes the need for conservatives in the U.S. to understand that there are different notions about art rather than relying on philistinism. It reveals three ideas about art. First is didactic which sees art as having a direct effect on the behavior of the audience. Second is the latitudinarian idea where art depicts evil and third is the radical idea which gives art the power to generate truth and virtue. It discusses the reasons of conservatives for not allowing popular culture and genuine art to meet.
