Ugo Ojetti and the Debate on the Teaching of Art and Art History at School (1923).
    • Abstract:
Vibrant discussions have been animating the Italian cultural debate since the end of the 19th century, facing the issue of art's history teaching in the high school, which finally ended with Royal Decree promoted by Giovanni Gentile in 1923. As much as heated was the controversy around the teaching of the arts in academia. The art critic Ugo Ojetti, an intelligent interpreter of the instances of the period, occupies a central role in the debate. He was in charge of the drafting of the educational curriculum of the Gentile reform and promoted, while he was chairing the ministerial commission committed to enhancing art teaching at art institutes and Academies, an interesting survey published on the journal 'Dedalo', which this contribution briefly reports on. • Abstract:
