    • Abstract:
A recent study published in Nature Geoscience suggests that Earth's core is undergoing significant changes. Researchers from Peking University in China used seismic waves from earthquakes to study the motion of Earth's inner core and found that it had been spinning faster than the outer layers from the 1970s to the early 2000s. However, they also discovered evidence that the core's motion may have slowed down and even reversed its spin since 2009. The core's rotation changes are part of a routine 70-year cycle and have minor effects on the length of a day and potentially on Earth's climate system. The proposed timescale for these oscillations remains controversial, and more research is needed to fully understand the core's behavior. [Extracted from the article]
