    • Abstract:
An essay is presented which tackles the abortive attempt by Charles Gildon to revise and stage Nathaniel Lee's play "Lucius Junius Brutus" at the beginning of Queen Anne's reign in England. It discusses the aspect of political drama between the Restoration and the beginning of the eighteenth century. It notes that when the censor rejected Gildon's first attempt to revise Lee's play, the English government was unwilling to consent even a modified version of Lee's cruel and violent republicanism.
