    • Abstract:
This paper examines the accounts and work strategies of female deputy sheriffs working in four county jails and three local adult detention centers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 108 women deputies. The findings suggest that women officers have distinctive approaches to their work that contrast to the work strategies of their male counterparts. Discussion of the value of an accounts' methodology is provided, and implications for future research of women deputies and practices in jail organizations are examined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
