      Mexico is a country in the midst of great change. Whatever happens in Mexico will have an important impact on the United States, its neighbor to the north. These changes are being put in place by President Vicente Fox, who was elected in 2000. He wants to have a friendlier relationship with the United States, and for American businesses to increase trade with Mexico. But it would be wrong to think of Mexico as nothing more than a poor country. Mexico has given the world some of its greatest artists and writers. Modern Mexico is seeking a place as the leader of all Latin America, an ally of the United States, and an important voice in global politics.
