CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston County Public Library brings storytime home to families and children through the Dial-A-Story line! You can listen to stories read aloud by Charleston County Public Library staff and Gullah Geechee storytellers. All you need is access to a phone.

Through the Dial-A-Story program, every month staff will record a reading of a short story, poem, or excerpt of a favorite book. Patrons can use the call-in service to listen to the stories. New stories are posted every Monday in four different categories: Birth-Kindergarten, 1st-5th grade, Young Adult, and Adult. Stories in Spanish in the category Birth-Kindergarten are available as well.

CCPL is partnerning with the International African American Museum (IAAM) to connect the Charleston County community with the stories and culture of the Gullah Geechee people. Thanks to this partnership, Gullah storytellers are bringing their tales to CCPL’s Dial-a-Story service, providing free on-demand access to these recorded stories by phone. Thanks to this partnership there are two new Gullah stories available on the line each month.

Hearing a story read-aloud is fun and beneficial for all ages. To access Dial-A-Story, call (843)805-6806. Follow the prompts to choose the story you would like to hear.
