General Summary:
The Collection Development Librarian, under the general direction of the Acquisitions & Collection Manager, will evaluate, select, and maintain various library collections in multiple formats and age ranges.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
· Collaborates with Collection Development, Acquisitions, and Cataloging teams within LCATS.
· Collaborates with CCPL branches and Community Engagement teams, in association with other members of LCATS. This includes but is not limited to regular branch visits and working collaboratively to analyze existing collections, keep current on community trends, and interpret data to identify the needs and interests of diverse communities, anticipate public demand, and improve collection performance.
· Selects a variety of new and replacement library materials in physical and digital formats for areas of assignment according to collection development theories and practices outlined in the CCPL Collection Development policy.
· Ensures that selected titles, subject areas, and quantities meet both branch and systemwide demand and that library collections are well balanced, containing appropriate interest, subject, and format variety suitable to staff and patron requirements.
· Reviews and evaluates patron and staff suggestion requests for inclusion in branch and systemwide collections.
· Analyzes branch and systemwide collection needs and works with appropriate teams to redistribute library resources, as applicable.
· Utilizes vendor services and professional tools to evaluate and select library resources.
· Tracks materials budget expenditures and anticipates budget needs in assigned collection areas.
· Assists the Acquisitions & Collection Manager as the subject matter expert in their designated collection area.
· Serves on library working groups or committees as directed by Acquisitions & Collection Manager.
· Answers assigned collection development questions from library staff through the departmental ticketing system/Help Desk.
· Maintains proficiency using vendor websites and platforms, the SirsiDynix Symphony ILS, other software tools, and continued professional development.
· Should be a good listener and communicator, present positive attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team member, and place top priority on customer service.
· Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the department.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of library materials and collection development processes.
· Ability to collaborate with branch staff for ongoing collection development and maintenance.
· Ability to use tact, courtesy and good judgment when communicating with coworkers, and the public.
· Ability to demonstrate knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of library materials, both print and electronic.
· Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas orally and in writing.
· Ability to carry out assignments independently and work collaboratively with a team.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Master of Library and Information Science degree.
· 2 years library experience.
· Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library Certification.
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods and emerging technical advances.
· Must possess excellent customer service skills, ability to get along well with others and to communicate effectively with the public and with library staff, a strong work ethic.

$53,248.00 - $59,966.40 annually commensurate with education and experience.
