CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) will open the new St. Paul’s Hollywood Library, located at 5130 Hwy 165, on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m.

“This new facility offers Hollywood and the surrounding community a modern library equipped with resources, services and technology that extend well beyond books,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “We’re excited to open the doors to this beautiful new library in March.

This facility is the third of five new libraries to open after the passing of a 2014 $108.5 million referendum calling for new facilities and the renovation and update of the existing branches. The Wando Mount Pleasant Library opened in June 2019, followed by the Baxter-Patrick James Island Library in November 2019.

Construction of the 15,000 square-foot facility began in October 2018. The branch was built by MB Kahn and designed by Glick Boehm Architecture, as well as Lauren Sanchez Design, who handled interior design work. Features include:

  • 100-Seat Auditorium
  • Self-Check Kiosks and Automated Materials Handling
  • Creative Studios/Makerspace equipped with several tools including sewing machines, a Cricut, art materials and more
  • Storytime Room
  • Teen Lounge
  • Outdoor Reading Areas
  • Learning (Computer) Lab

The ribbon cutting ceremony will include speakers from the library and Charleston County Government, as well as elected officials. In addition to the ribbon cutting, patrons will have the opportunity to attend several opening day programs including a special storytime featuring CCPL’s mascot, Owlbert, an outdoor carnival (weather permitting), pizza and painting in the Community Garden, a program by CCPL historian Nic Butler, and more.
