Like downloading CCPL titles from OverDrive? You're going to love new 'deliver later' function
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Do you love reading? Do you love the Libby app to download books on the go? There have been some recent changes to Libby that will help make sure you’re able to read the books you want to read when you want to read them.
During the month of March, the app is upgrading to give you a few more choices for what to do when a book is ready for you. Before this update, when your place in the hold queue came up, the title was downloaded - whether you were ready for it or not!
Now there are a couple options: you can borrow it and start reading. You'll have three days to open the Libby app and check out the title; or you can choose to "deliver later" and pick a time period when you want the book delivered to you. Once that time has elapsed, you'll be next on the list.
So say you're going on vacation and just want light, beachy reads for your time off, but that comprehensive history of China is up next on your hold list. No you can just delay deliver for a couple weeks and start that read after your vacation!
What if I forget to pick up my hold?
If you forget to borrow your available title during the pickup window, your hold will automatically be set to “deliver later” as a one-time courtesy or 7 days. After 7 days, your hold will be active again and you’ll receive another notification when the next copy is ready to borrow.
How will I know when my book has become available?
Don’t worry! You’ll receive a notification from the Libby app.
Why did this change?
This change was made to give you more control over what you read and when you read it, so you can get around to checking every book off your must-read list.
However, you can still use the “suspend hold” feature before holds are ready to borrow. Hold suspension lets youcontinue moving up on the wait list without the hold becoming available to borrow. This means you and all of our other OverDrive users can now manage their holds before and after they become available, giving even more flexibility and control.
Does this only impact the Libby app?
This change is being rolled out for all OverDrive ebooks & audiobooks whether borrowed in Libby, the OverDrive app, or from our website/catalog.
