Estate Planning: Judge Irv Condon lectures on Estate Planning, which is the process of arranging during one’s life the management of the individual’s estate and health care in the event the person becomes incapacitated; and, after the person has passed away, the distribution of one’s assets. Judge Condon provides sample Estate Planning documents such as a Will, a Trust, Powers of Attorneys, Advance Directives, etc. and will have a PowerPoint presentation to provide visual aid for this important subject.
Estate Administration: Judge Irv Condon teaches how to administer or probate an estate. This process involves the management and distribution of a deceased loved one’s estate assets. Judge Condon provides a sample estate file to review on a step-by-step basis the Estate Administration process. Judge Condon will also discuss our numerous divisions and services, including our Electronic Filing System, the first and only of its kind in a South Carolina Probate Court.
Getting Treatment for a Loved One with Substance Use Disorder and/or Mental Illness: Topics covered will include voluntary services at the Charleston Center and the Charleston/Dorchester Community Health Center; involuntary services or civil commitment for alcohol and drugs and/or mental illness; the Court Assisted Treatment Program; and our criminal justice programs of drug court, mental health court, and veterans treatment court.
Guardianships & Conservatorships: Judge Irv Condon will discuss and answer questions on the legal process related to adult guardianships and adult and minor conservatorships. The judge will explain how to avoid an adult guardianship and/or conservatorship; and if not possible, he will explain the necessary legal filings, what to expect at the court hearing, and the annual reporting requirements.
