Community input is sought to help shape a series of field schools focused on researching and documenting late 19th and early 20th century public buildings and their role within the African-American community on Johns Island.

Beginning in Summer 2023, a series of field schools will be held by a coalition of scholars from Clemson University, Claflin University, the Avery Research Center for African American History & Culture, the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, and members of the Progressive Club and local community educators. At these information sessions, the project team will offer additional details about the field school, answer questions, and seek input from community members.

Information/Listening Sessions will be held at the following library branches:

Baxter-Patrick James Island: Wednesday 8/10 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Main Library: Saturday 8/20 from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
John's Island: Saturday 8/27 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
