CHARLESTON, S.C. - Thousands of people in Charleston County and South Carolina have lost their jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. According to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, during the week ending in March 18, more than 73,000 South Carolinians filed for unemployment benefits, which means many people are now on the hunt for a job. Charleston County Public Library is here to help.

We scoured the Internet to find the most useful sites for job hunting and have compiled a short list of some of the biggest employers who are currently hiring. Keep in mind, you are not alone in this process. If you find a job you are interested in this list and you need help writing or brushing up your resume, we can help. Where to find job listings:

Indeed includes all the job listings from major job boards, newspapers, associations, and company career pages, and employers can even post jobs directly to Indeed that may not be available anywhere else. Indeed is a free service to job seekers, where you can upload a resume, create job alert emails, search for jobs, save them and apply to them directly. They offer Job Trends, which lets you explore the number of jobs posted on Indeed under specific titles or industries and Company Pages where you can read reviews of companies that interest you written by current and former employees. If you’re new to Indeed, they recommend also checking out their Essential Job Search Guide and exploring their Forums. The world's largest professional network with nearly 675+ million users in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. LinkedIn provides a free job search to one of the largest new job databases available online. They also provide tips and advice for resumes. 

Post and Courier Classifieds: Jobs
The Post and Courier's job listings through its classifieds, are powered by Monster. 

SC Health Jobs
A complete resource provided by the South Carolina Hospital Association for both job seekers and hospital recruiters.

SC State Jobs
State government careers. Apply for specific state employment vacancies or join a pool to be considered for future vacancies.

SC Works
An online tool designed to assist the job seeker find the right job and the employer find the right candidate. Lets you search for jobs by your zip code, city, county, workforce region, specific metropolitan area or statewide. You may register for job openings and locate labor and wage data for the state.

SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department
An employment agency for people with disabilities.

Provides a wealth of quality links to job sites throughout South Carolina that allows you to search by city or county.

Teaching in SC
Center for educator recruitment, retention, and advancement.

Featured Current Job Openings (Large National Employers):

Search for available jobs by selecting a career area under ‘All Careers Area’, searching by job title or keyword or by location (city & state). There is also a helpful FAQ section.

Search for available jobs at this grocery store chain. They’ve even sorted the jobs to highlight those non-management positions. They have also provided a helpful section of frequently asked questions about Publix’s stance on the current coronavirus pandemic and how the company is responding to the pandemic.

The locations in North Charleston and Charleston are currently hiring. They have also provided a helpful section with frequently asked questions for job seekers.

Dollar General
This retail company is adding up to 50,000 employees by the end of April 2020.

Dollar Tree/Family Dollar
The retail store chain is hiring. They also feature a section about how they are responding to the virus.

According to their website, “more than 300,000 Lowe’s associates have worked around the clock over the past several weeks to ensure our customers, first responders and government officials have access to the essential products they need during this unprecedented time. To continue in that mission, we’re hiring for critical roles across our stores, including immediate part-time, full-time, and short-term positions. At Lowe’s, we’re here to help.
