CHARLESTON, S.C. - Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person storytimes are on hold across Charleston County Public Library branches. But even when you can't come to storytime in-person, you can have your own storytime at home with CCPL's Storytime To-Go Kits.

"We created the Storytime To-Go Kits in 2016 as part of our efforts to honor the life and legacy of Cynthia Graham Hurd and her commitment to connecting the community with literacy," Community Engagement Manager Devon Andrews said.

Inside each kit you'll find all the supplies you need to recreate the storytime experience with your child. Each kit is built around a theme like monsters, ocean animals, ABCs, or weather. The materials in the kit fit the designated theme and include eight books, a puppet, two early learning toys, and a collection of songs and rhymes.

"Normally our branches would be having these great storytimes. Right now these are even more wonderful because you have everything you need to checkout a bag and do storytime at home. And of course, you can still watch our storytimes virtually," Andrews said.

With many different themes to choose from, the storytime adventures could continue for months or even years. Each kit is checked out for two weeks and can be renewed if there are no holds for the kit.

You can search all the Storytime To-Go Kits available in CCPL's online catalog. You can also continue the storytime fun at home with CCPL's virtual storytimes. New episodes are shared on CCPL's Facebook page Monday through Friday at 10 AM.
