CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SC DEW) is now offering emergency unemployment benefits. The Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) is available for up to 13 additional weeks of insurance funds for those who have depleted all their regular unemployment insurance assistance.

The PEUC is for people who:

  • Have exhausted all regular unemployment insurance benefit payments.
  • Are able and available for work, unless unable to do so due to COVID-19 related reasons.
  • Are registered with SCWOS (job search portal) You do not have to complete job searches during State of Emergency declared by the governor, but you must be registered.
  • Reported any covered earnings earned during the week being claimed. Covered earnings includes, but is not limited to, wages, paid sick time, vacation pay, and holiday pay

The PEUC funds are not for those currently receiving benefits from the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, receiving paid leave, or those teleworking.
