June 26, 2018 -- The design team of McMillan, Pazdan, and Smith Architecture presented the completed schematic design during the CCPL Board of Trustees meeting on June 26. A community meeting will be planned in the coming months to allow residents to ask questions about the design.

Design team wraps up schematics for R. Keith Summey North Charleston

The design team is wrapping up schematic design, the first of three stages in the design process.  Once the design is reviewed in detail by County and Library staff, a community meeting will be held.  This meeting is an opportunity for community members to see the design for the new library.  The architects will present their work to date, and the design team will hold a question and answer session following the presentation.  Keep checking our website for announcements!
County selects site for R. Keith Summey North Charleston

September 28, 2017

The County reached a decision regarding the R. Keith Summey North Charleston Library. The library will be located on the site of the former sheriff’s complex, behind the current Cooper River Memorial Library. The County issued a Notice to Proceed to MB Kahn on September 27, 2017 allowing design work to begin.
County council renames Cooper River Memorial library

July 19, 2017

Charleston County Council members voted to rename the Cooper Rivier Memorial Library to honor Mayor Keith Summey. The library's new name is R. Keith Summey North Charleston Library. Other branches had their names changed during the same meeting to highlight their locations in Charleston County.

The final building demolition at the Cooper River site is nearing completion. This work is scheduled to wrap-up by the end of July.

The demolition of four existing buildings on the Cooper River site neared completion. Asbestos abatement at these buildings concluded earlier this month.

The environmental permitting process and associated demolition of four existing buildings on the Cooper River site (excluding the current library) are underway. Asbestos abatement at these buildings will begin within the next couple months. This will allow for the construction of a completely new library on this site.

The Sherriff's complex on the Cooper River replacement site was scheduled for demolition in the winter of 2017, and a future round of demolition will allow for the construction of a completely new facility.
